What is PBIS?

PBIS is an acronym for Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports

It is a K-8 integration of:

  • Establishing a system and process for teaching/re-teaching desired behaviors
  • Establishing common expectations for staff and students
  • Implementing research-based practices
  • Using data to make decisions regarding student and building needs
  • Establishing a framework for students and staff to operate together as a community
  • How does PBIS benefit students and teachers?

  • The school environment is positive and predictable.
  • The instructional time is increased and academic performance is improved.
  • The school climate is improved.
  • There is a reduction in problem behaviors, office referrals and suspensions.

PBIS uses a three tiered approach to intervention.  Each tier is based on a specific set of criteria, each tier providing increased structure and support for students.

Tier 1- Universal Level (Dodgeland is at Tier 1)

Tier 1 supports are intended to support ALL students in both the elementary and middle school.

The components are:

Establishing comprehensive discipline procedures, data entry, and analysis of student data to better assist students socially and emotionally.
