Dear Dodgeland Families, Our school meal program – as you are well aware of, still must meet the tough federal nutrition standards when school begins again this year. These standards ensure that meals are healthy and well-balanced, and provide students all the nutrition they need to succeed at school.

As in the past, school meals will continue to offer students milk, fruits and vegetables, proteins and grains, and they must meet strict limits on saturated fat, sodium and portion size.  This change started with the 2012-2013 school year, school lunches also need to meet additional standards requiring:

Age-appropriate calorie limits: Larger servings of vegetables and fruits (Students must take at least one half cup of fruit or vegetables before they exit the serving line.)

A wider variety of vegetables, including dark green and red/orange vegetables and legumes

Fat-free or 1% milk (flavored milk must be fat-free)

More whole grains

Less sodium

All grade levels are affected by these changes.  We will publish our menus to our website on a monthly basis. We encourage you to look at the menus and show them to your students(s).  We know that some of these foods may be new to them, but we view the school’s Commons as a great place to learn.  Here they usually don’t learn math, science or reading – they learn to eat healthy foods!  We will have a variety of ways to let our students know what is new and different in the food service lines.

Dodgeland Food Service Department programs continue to be of great value and a huge convenience for busy families.  Now is a great time to encourage your kids to choose school lunch!  We look forward to seeing your children this fall in our lunch lines.  Thank you!
This institution is an equal opportunity provider.
